No More Excuses: Repeal Michigan's Retirement Tax

Important: Contact your State Rep today to repeal Michigan’s retirement tax

AARP members sent nearly 11,000 emails in January, and two weeks ago the Michigan House and Michigan Senate each passed separate bills to repeal Michigan’s retirement tax.

But now with the legislation in conference committee, a final vote is in jeopardy!

We need your help to get this legislation over the finish line. Please contact your State Representative and State Senator again TODAY, and tell them to vote YES on HB 4001.

AARP has been fighting this unfair tax from the start. In the past, efforts to repeal it have always fallen short due to politics. We cannot let that happen again. Leading up to the November 2022 election, politicians across party lines promised to repeal this tax. Now -- once again -- legislators have started making excuses for why they're going to renege on their promise. We need to hold them accountable.

Take action now! Please tell your State Representative and State Senator to keep their promise and vote YES on HB 4001 to repeal Michigan's retirement tax.

No More Excuses: Vote YES to Repeal Michigan’s Retirement Tax
Dear Legislator,

I am your constituent, and I am writing to urge you to vote YES on HB 4001 as reported by the conference committee, to repeal Michigan’s retirement tax once and for all.

Leading up to the November 2022 election, legislators across party lines promised to repeal this tax, and now it's time to keep this promise.

When the Legislature created the Michigan retirement tax in 2011, it pulled the rug out from under many Michiganders who were already on fixed incomes, forcing them to go back to work or delay retirement. Today this tax continues to impact new waves of retirees, including the recent surge of COVID-19 retirees, by reducing the effective value of their retirement benefits.

The state of retirement security in Michigan doesn’t just matter to individual retirees, but to our state’s economy as a whole.

I urge you to vote YES on HB 4001 to repeal Michigan’s retirement tax and restore retirement security for Michigan residents.

Thank you.
